Barcode scanner integration

Introduction

Sumtracker is integrated with barcode scanners provided by Socket mobile. Socket mobile barcode scanners are recommended scanners by the Shopify team.

We recommend using the Socket mobile S720 2D barcode scanners. Although Sumtracker is integrated with all Socket mobile barcode devices.

Barcode scanners will work on the Stock by Location table page. You can connect the barcode scanner to your PC, iPad or mobile phone.

Connecting to a PC

  1. Reference the image below, and scan the "Basic Mode (HID)-Keyboard" barcode
  1. Now the scanner will be in pairing mode. Go to your computer's Bluetooth settings, then pair
  2. Pairing should be successful
  3. Open up any text editor application
  4. Test the scanner by scanning a barcode. The barcode should be printed in the text edit by simulating keyboard actions

Now you can use the scanner with Sumtracker on Chrome browser.

Connecting to an iOS device (iPad or iPhone)

*Do not pair the scanner to the iPad until you have successfully scanned the Application Mode for iOS barcode.

  1. For iOS devices, you need to install the Rumba app by Socket mobile.
  2. Open the Rumba app and reference the image below, and scan the "Application Mode for iOS" barcode
  1. Now the scanner will be in pairing mode. Go to your device's Bluetooth settings, then pair
  2. Pairing should be successful
  3. Open the Greenline application
  4. Go to the Settings > Socket Mobile screen
  5. Test the scanner by scanning a barcode. The barcode should show up under the "Scan results" section

Now you can use the Sumtracker app on Rumba browser on your device with the scanner.

Connecting to an Android Device

*Connecting a Socket Mobile scanner to an Android device requires downloading the Socket Mobile Companion app.

  1. Download the Socket Mobile Companion app through the Google Play Store


  2. Open the application and tap "Add New Device"


  3. You will be prompted to add a new reader and select your device
  4. The app will provide you with a barcode that you can scan to activate pairing mode

  5. Once pairing mode is initialized you will be able to select your Socket Mobile device
  6. The Bluetooth pairing will then be completed on your Android device
  7. Open the Greenline application
  8. Go to the Settings > Socket Mobile screen
  9. Test the scanner by scanning a barcode. The barcode should show up under the "Scan results" section

Now you can use the Sumtracker app on Chrome browser on Android with the scanner.

Using the barcode scanner with Sumtracker

Once the scanner is connected, it will show as connected on the Stock by Location page.

You can connect multiple scanners at the same time. You will be able to see the list of connected devices when you hover over the Connected scanners box.

Once the scanner is connected, you can scan any barcode while on the Stock by Location screen. On scanning, Sumtracker will show the product in the table.

The quantity of the product will automatically increase based on the number of times you scan the barcode. Quantity can also be manually updated.

You will also be able to ping the scanner device from Sumtracker to locate it.

If you scan a wrong barcode, you will get an error sound/vibration indicating that system cannot find the barcode you’ve scanned.
