Amazon Integration: How Sumtracker works with Amazon
This guide covers how the integration works, how to set it up for common scenarios, and what to watch out for along the way.
Sumtracker connects directly to your Amazon seller account to keep your inventory accurate across every channel you sell on.
On turning on inventory sync, Sumtracker becomes the master of your inventory for your Amazon FBM products, deducts inventory when orders come in, and pushes updated counts back to Amazon FBM so your listings always reflect real availability. While it becomes a read only reporting tool for Amazon FBA. Inventory is copied from Amazon FBA to Sumtracker at regular intervals. Sumtracker does not push inventory data to FBA.
Sumtracker syncs inventory quantities between your Amazon store and any other connected channels (Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, and so on). When a product with the same SKU exists on Amazon and Shopify, Sumtracker keeps the stock count in sync across both.
What Sumtracker does not do is create, edit, or delete listings on any online channel, or on Amazon.
Connecting Your Amazon Store
You can add Amazon as a sales channel from the Sales Channels section of your Sumtracker account. Click Connect New Channel and follow the prompts to authorize access via Amazon Seller Central.
Connecting Multiple Amazon Marketplaces (US, Canada, Mexico, and Others)
Each Amazon region appears as its own Sales Channel in Sumtracker:
- North America — US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil will have their own sales channels
- Europe — UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and more will have their own sales channels
- Far East — Japan, Australia, Singapore will have their own sales channels
So depending on your Amazon account, you might see more than one sales channel for the same seller account in Sumtracker. If you sell in only one region, nothing will look different.
How FBA and FBM Inventory Are Handled
Sumtracker treats Amazon FBA and Amazon FBM as two separate warehouses inside your account.
For FBA: Sumtracker copies the inventory quantities directly from your FBA warehouse in Amazon. You do not manually set these numbers — Sumtracker reads them from Amazon and displays them so you have visibility. You cannot push inventory to FBA from Sumtracker; Amazon controls what is physically stored there.
For FBM: Sumtracker pushes inventory to your Amazon FBM listings from the FBM warehouse you manage in Sumtracker. Any changes you make to inventory in Sumtracker will flow out to your Amazon FBM listings.
If you want to sync only FBA (and ignore FBM orders, which may be handled by another tool), Sumtracker supports that. When enabling sync for your Amazon store, you can choose to sync FBM only, FBA only, or both FBA + FBM.
Syncing Inventory with Shopify and Other Channels
When the same SKU exists on both Amazon and Shopify (or any other connected channel), Sumtracker keeps the inventory counts aligned. Here is how it works:
- You connect both your Shopify store and your Amazon store to Sumtracker.
- Sumtracker matches products by SKU. Products with the same SKU across channels are treated as the same item.
- Sumtracker becomes the source of truth. Adjustments made in Sumtracker flow out to both Amazon and Shopify.
- When an order comes in on either channel, inventory is deducted in Sumtracker and the updated count is pushed to the other channel.
If your Amazon SKU is different from your Shopify SKU for the same physical product, you can use Bundles in Sumtracker to connect both SKUs.
Bundles and Kits
Bundles require specific setup to work correctly with Amazon. A few things to understand:
You do not manage bundle inventory directly. Instead, a bundle’s available quantity is calculated from the inventory of its individual component SKUs. When a bundle sells, Sumtracker deducts the appropriate quantities from each component.
For this to work, the bundle must be set up in Sumtracker with its components defined, and each component must have inventory tracked in Sumtracker.
FBA bundles: If you ship a pre-assembled bundle SKU to Amazon FBA (rather than individual components), the bundle SKU exists in FBA but the components do not. In this case, Sumtracker does not calculate the bundle SKU inventory from components, it simply copies FBA inventory for the bundle and shows in the Sumtracker inventory report.
Amazon Customer Returns
Amazon processes returns on a monthly cycle, so Sumtracker syncs returns from the previous month on a weekly basis. Every seven days, Sumtracker checks for returned items and restocks them in your inventory.
There is one exception: if you process a returnless refund on Amazon (where the customer keeps the item), Sumtracker does not restock the product, since no inventory was actually returned.
This setting can be turned on or off at any time:
- Go to Sales Channels in Sumtracker.
- Click on your Amazon store and open Channel Settings.
- Toggle the Sync Customer Returns setting to enable or disable it.
Hard Refreshing Inventory
If Amazon inventory appears out of date or stuck at the wrong number, you can force a full resync:
- Go to Sales Channels in Sumtracker.
- Click on your Amazon store.
- Click Hard Refresh Inventory.
This triggers a full inventory pull from Amazon and overwrites any stale numbers in Sumtracker.
Products Not Appearing in Sumtracker
Occasionally, a product or SKU that exists on Amazon does not show up in Sumtracker. This can happen due to a temporary sync issue.
If a SKU is missing:
- First confirm the SKU is active and live on Amazon.
- Go to Sales Channels in Sumtracker.
- Click on your Amazon store.
- Click Re-sync Products
- If the product doesn’t appear within 20 minutes, contact support and share the specific SKU(s).
