Why is Inventory is not syncing from Sumtracker to my Shopify store?

If your inventory is not syncing from Sumtracker to your Shopify store, work through the checks below to identify and resolve the issue.

Common reasons inventory does not sync

1. The Shopify location is not enabled for that product

This is one of the most common reasons. If a product is not enabled for a specific location in Shopify, Sumtracker cannot push inventory to it. Go to the product in Shopify Admin and make sure the relevant location is enabled under the Inventory section.

2. Inventory tracking is turned off for the product on Shopify

If a product or variant is set to "Don't track inventory" in Shopify, Sumtracker has no inventory field to update. Make sure the product has "Track quantity" enabled in Shopify.

3. Close at Quantity threshold has been reached

If you have set a Close at Quantity in Sumtracker for that product and the available stock has fallen below that threshold, Sumtracker will push zero to Shopify instead of the actual quantity. Check your Close at Quantity settings for that SKU.

4. Another app is overwriting the inventory on Shopify

If another inventory or fulfillment app is also updating stock on Shopify, it may be overwriting the values Sumtracker sends. Check if any other apps have inventory management permissions in your Shopify store.

5. Inventory was manually edited on Shopify

If someone manually changed the inventory on Shopify, Sumtracker may not detect this change. This creates a mismatch between what Sumtracker shows and what Shopify shows. A hard refresh (see below) is the quickest way to fix this.

Verify your warehouse connection and sync mode

Go to Sales Channels → Settings of the channel → Warehouse Connections tab and check the following:

  • Confirm which Shopify location your Sumtracker warehouse is connected to. Make sure it is the correct location.
  • Confirm that the sync mode is set to Sumtracker is Master for that connection. If Sumtracker is not set as the Inventory Master, it will not push inventory updates to Shopify.

How to fix inventory mismatches

For multiple SKUs — run a Hard Refresh

This is the single most important step whenever you find inventory mismatching for multiple products between Sumtracker and Shopify. Go to the Sales Channels page and use the Hard Refresh action. This forces Sumtracker to re-push inventory for all products to Shopify, resolving any mismatches.

For a single SKU — sync inventory from the product list

If the mismatch is only for one product, go to Products from the left-hand menu. Select the product from the table — an action menu will appear. Click Sync Inventory in the action menu to immediately update that SKU's inventory on Shopify.

Diagnose what happened

The best way to understand what caused the mismatch is to check the inventory history for that SKU on Shopify. This shows you a timeline of every inventory change, including which app or user made the change.
