Why is my store flagged for review before turning on sync
Why is my store flagged for review?
When you try to turn on inventory sync for your Shopify store, Sumtracker automatically checks your store's product data to make sure sync will work correctly. If something needs your attention, Sumtracker flags the store for review and asks you to contact our support team before proceeding.
This is a safety measure - we want to make sure your inventory doesn't get overwritten or synced incorrectly.
The most common reason: Duplicate SKUs
The most frequent reason a store gets flagged is that multiple listings on your Shopify store share the same SKU. Here's why that matters:
How Sumtracker handles duplicate SKUs:
In Sumtracker, all listings with the same SKU are treated as the same product. This means they share the same inventory. When you turn on sync, Sumtracker copies the inventory from any one of these listings and applies it to all the other listings with the same SKU.
For example, if you have three listings - a white t-shirt, a black t-shirt, and a grey t-shirt - all using the SKU BC3001-SM, Sumtracker treats them as one product. The inventory from any one of these listings will be copied to the other two.
Is this intentional?
For some stores, duplicate SKUs are completely intentional. Common scenarios where this is expected include:
- You sell the same blank product (e.g., a Bella Canvas t-shirt) with different custom designs or decoration methods, and you want all of them to share inventory because they pull from the same stock.
- You have the same product listed under different collections or categories, and they should share the same inventory count.
- You intentionally group products together so that when one sells, the inventory decreases for all of them.
If this describes your situation, no changes are needed. Simply reply to the email from our support team and confirm that the duplicate SKUs are intentional. We will remove the flag, and you can proceed with turning on sync.
What if this is not intentional?
If your listings are not meant to share inventory, each listing that tracks its own stock needs a unique SKU in Shopify.
Here's what to do:
- Review your duplicate SKUs. After your store is flagged, you can find a list of all listings with duplicate SKUs in your Sumtracker account by going to your Shopify store's settings under Sales Channels.
- Fix the SKUs in Shopify. Update the SKUs in Shopify so that each listing that should have independent inventory has its own unique SKU.
- Let us know. Once you have fixed the duplicate SKUs, reply to the email from our support team to confirm the changes. We will review your store again and remove the flag.
Other reasons your store may be flagged
While duplicate SKUs are the most common reason, your store may also be flagged if:
- Missing SKUs - All of your products don't have SKUs assigned. Sumtracker requires SKUs to manage and sync inventory. You'll need to assign SKUs to your products in Shopify before turning on sync.
- Very large catalog - Your store has a very large number of listings (for example, over 50,000 variants). In this case, we recommend archiving or deleting inactive products either in Shopify or in Sumtracker to keep your inventory list clean and ensure faster sync performance.
