What is sync mode for Shopify stores

You can see the sync mode for the Shopify locations on Sales channels > Settings > Warehouse connections (tab on Sales channels page)

The sync mode defines the data flow between Sumtracker and Shopify. Here are each of the sync modes and what they mean.

Sumtracker is master

Inventory will sync from Sumtracker to Shopify. Recommended setup if you want to manage inventory in Sumtracker. Inventory is being synced continuously every few minutes.

What this means for your operations: You are supposed to update your inventory only through Sumtracker. Any inventory adjustments done on Shopify will be overwritten by Sumtracker. Any inventory changes that you do in Sumtracker will sync to Shopify.

Orders will keep syncing from Shopify to Sumtracker. Any inventory changes due to new orders, fulfillments, order changes, refunds, cancellations will be automatically detected by Sumtracker.

Products will keep syncing from Shopify to Sumtracker.

💡 This is required to choose if you want to use Sumtracker for Purchase orders, Stocktakes, Stock transfers, Bundles, Keep inventory in sync between stores or managing inventory.

Shopify is master

Inventory will sync from Shopify to Sumtracker. This happens once every hour or so.

Recommended only in the following cases

  • You are in the testing phase and do not want to make Sumtracker as the master yet.
  • The inventory on your Shopify store is being updated by a third party or a 3PL, and you do not want to give them access to Sumtracker. And you want to see your inventory in Sumtracker.
💡 What this means for your operations: Sumtracker is acting as a read only system for your inventory, orders and products. You will not be able to use Sumtracker for managing inventory or Purchase orders.

Do Not Connect

There will be no inventory sync between Sumtracker and Shopify.

In this case, the Shopify location will simply not be connected to Sumtracker. The orders placed on your Shopify store will keep syncing to Sumtracker. However, we will not detect inventory changes for the particular location that is not linked.
